BAUNEI | SARDINIA

It has always been a wish of mine to visit the Blue Zones, and this summer that wish came true. The Blue Zones are areas on earth where people reach the age of 100 at rates 10 times greater than in the United States, these were identified in 2004 by, among others, Dan Buttoner and National Geographic. There are at the moment 5 Blue zones identified, which all have the same nine specific lifestyle characteristics.  For more information you can visit their website, but I highly suggest to read Dan’s book The Blue Zones. If any of you are interested I can do a more in-depth post on how I came to this book and my opinion and interpretation of its content.

We stayed in Baunei, between the mountains and the sea, for roughly 4 days, exploring the mountains as well as snorkelling along the coast of Sardinia. We slept in Hotel Bia Maore, which I would recommend to anyone visiting the area. Here are some photographs from are stay.

    1. Hi Heri thank you! It was a beautiful place. Sadly I only had the opportunity to engage in some small conversation with the centenarians and did not have any in depth conversations, however I am planning to go back and stay for a longer period of time to really get to know the sardinian people and their lifestyle.
